The Delta State Capital Territory Development Agency (DSCTDA) recently hosted a stakeholders’ meeting to discuss strategies for the proper disposal of domestic waste. The goal was to enhance a cleaner and healthier environment within the capital territory.
The Director General of the DSCTDA, Patrick Ukah, welcomed stakeholders, including landlords, to the program. In his remarks, Ukah highlighted that the meeting aligns with his administration’s plan to engage various stakeholders on mitigating environmental challenges. He emphasized the importance of involving Private Sector Participation (PSP) operators to address environmental nuisances effectively.
Ukah appealed to landlords to ensure proper waste disposal to prevent environmental hazards and degradation. He also encouraged stakeholders to explore opportunities for turning waste into wealth from the newly introduced Wastebanc programme, a partnership waste management programme with Sterling Bank. Additionally, he urged residents to refrain from indiscriminate dumping of refuse and to report any anomalies to the agency through the following contact lines: 09055559403, 09055557947, and 09055558975, available between 8:00 AM and 5:00 PM.
One of the landlords Mr. Raymond, shared his experiences and underscored the need for continuous enlightenment campaigns on proper waste disposal practices. Other landlords present raised their concerns, which the Director General assured would be addressed promptly.
Key members of the DSCTDA attended the meeting, including the Head of Admin and Finance, Mr. Vincent Okwufajeke; the Manager of Business Investment, Mr. John Ijiede; the Head of Environment, Mr. Isaac Nwosu; and the Head of Corporate Affairs, Mrs. Ngozi Peters, along with other legislative and management team members.
